Hot-Sculpted and Coldworked Glass

Work Statement: As humans, we find comfort in intimacy. We feel comfort when our bodies wrap around another body and it goes a step further, we feel an even deeper sense of comfort when the body we wrap fits just right. Why do some bodies, some objects match and others don’t? Why do we long for this perfect fit, this connection?

This object serves as a reflection - a reminder - of the power of calmness that can be created by the physical combination of form and touch. There is satisfaction when the glove fits the hand, the key goes into the lock, the enzyme binds to the substrate. These specific forms and the touch they produce carry a memory. A memory to resolve fears, a memory to forget, a memory to hold, a memory to admire....
